Share xStar Data and Models

Learn about how to share data and models between xStar projects to enable collaboration.

Sharing and Saving xStar Data

Import Existing Project

Users can import a previously saved *.xsb file containing xStar assemblies and designs by selecting Import from the File menu. This allows users to view and compare designs from different xStar/Revit projects.

If the same assembly or design is changed in both projects, the latest changes are applied during the import.

Export Data

For each design, users can export:

  • Quantity Takeoffs (.csv)

    • Line item quantities, costs, and more

  • REScheck Envelopes (.csv)

    • Building envelope surface areas, U-factors, and more

  • [experimental] HPXML (.xml)

Save Project

xStar designs and custom assemblies can be saved to a custom XSB (*.xsb) file using File > Save As… or File > Save. XSB files can be shared with other users. When other users open the XSB file in xStar, your design, including any referenced custom assemblies, is automatically imported.
